Dates for the camp are Monday through Friday, July 10-21, 2006.
Why a two week session? Because although working towards a goal, be it a theatrical production, a musical event, or a visual work of art is important, process is key. In other words, how we get there is more important than getting there. It has been our experience that in one week, participants are just getting comfortable. Especially where the performing arts are concerned (theatre, dance, music) one week is not enough time to adequately cultivate the spirit of ensemble. It is indeed possible to throw a performance together in that amount of time, but the emphasis goes in the direction of having something to show rather than to the quality of the experience for the child involved. We think having a product and/or performance and a kinesthetic understanding of art is the best of both worlds.
Our teachers are all working professionals in their respective fields. We will offer classes in pottery, contemporary music and dance, theatre,
jewelry making, painting, drawing, and audio engineering. We want our campers to get a taste of everything, and we feel collaboration is a beautiful word.
