Morning Program Dance for 9 th to 12 th graders
This class is an introduction into the genre of Modern Dance. Students do not need to have had any previous experience, but if you do, that's okay! We'll throw you some challenges. Modern Dance can be thought of as a type of free dance that is much looser and less rigged than ballet. Isadora Duncan, the "mother" of modern dance, developed a philosophy based on natural and spiritual concepts and advocated the acceptance of pure dance-that which comes from within one's spirit- as a high art. Students will get the experience of learning the basic movements and techniques. Modern is a form of dance that is artistic, expressionist and lots of fun! No special clothing is required except that which allows you to move. The best part is we do it in bare feet! Taught by Leah Ann Cronin, a member of Contemporary Dance Ensemble.
